Soft Wash vs Pressure Wash: Which Method for Which Surface

Why most drone façade and roof cleaning uses soft washing, and where higher pressure still has a place.

Soft washing

Soft washing applies a detergent or algaecide at low pressure, lets it dwell, then rinses. It kills organic growth at the root and is the usual choice for EIFS, stucco, painted surfaces, vinyl siding and shingle roofs, which high pressure can damage.

Pressure washing

Higher pressure is better suited to hard, durable surfaces such as concrete, some masonry and metal, and to removing heavy deposits. Drones carry reaction forces from high-pressure lances, so check that the provider’s platform and payload are rated for it.

Pure-water and glass

Windows and curtain walls are often cleaned with purified water that dries spot-free, sometimes with a brush attachment. Detergents are usually avoided on glass unless needed for specific staining.

Chemistry and runoff

Ask what products will be used, their dilution, how plants, people and vehicles will be protected, and how runoff will be managed to meet local stormwater rules. Some algaecide applications may require a state pesticide applicator licence.
