Drone Cleaning Rules: Part 107, Chemicals and Licences

An informational overview of FAA rules, chemical application and licensing questions for drone cleaning in the US.

FAA Part 107

Commercial drone operators in the US fly under FAA Part 107 and hold a Remote Pilot Certificate. Heavier cleaning drones may exceed the 55 lb limit once loaded with a wet tether, which can require additional FAA relief such as a 44807 exemption. Ask the provider how their operation is authorised.

Part 137 and chemicals

FAA Part 137 covers agricultural aircraft operations that dispense substances. Whether a given cleaning operation falls under it depends on the product and purpose, so providers applying algaecides or biocides should be able to explain their position. This is not legal advice.

State licences and stormwater

Some states require a pesticide applicator licence for products that kill algae, moss or mildew. Local stormwater and runoff rules can also apply to wash water. Check requirements with your state and municipality.

Our role

DroneCleaningHub.com is a directory. We do not issue authorisations, certify safety or verify every licence unless a listing shows a verification badge. Always ask for documents before work begins.
